Murphy's Law is alive and well here in Kenya! If you read our email written September 23, you know that we had guests (Steve and Hope Shearouse) from the Savannah area and a local pastor and his family (Issac, Margret, Timothy, and Edwin Mwangi) for dinner Monday night, September 21. Just as they called to say that they were on campus I heard a strange fluttering noise coming from the gas stove. Upon checking, I found that the oven (where the main dish was) had gone off and the rice on the top of the stove was barely cooking. The bomb (what they call the propane tank here) was empty. We had a spare on hand but I had no idea how to hook it up and Vic
was at faculty meeting. PANIC TIME!
But wait, "Gladys, our house helper, is working at our neighbor's (next door in the duplex) today." I summoned her aid and soon the chicken and rice were both cooking in and on our neighbor's stove. I quickly ran to campus and met our guests. What fun to have visitors from home and from nearby. How exciting to receive some needed items that our daughter, Esther, sent with the Shearouses.
We only had two hours together because they needed to return to Issac's home before dark (the roads here are much safer in the daylight which is gone at 7:00 every night year round). A great time appeared to be had by all and God and we got the better of Murphy's Law!
